More than a year ago, a scruffy long-haired tabby cat discovered his way to the right person for help. He climbed up a balcony and eagerly devoured the food set out by resident Celine Crom, who cared for local strays.
This tabby was in a sorry state, covered in tangled fur and dirt. An agonizing infection prevented him from closing his mouth properly.
Celine, who operates Chatons Orphelins Montreal, sprang into action with a plan to assist him.
Due to his lack of human interaction, the cat was extremely cautious around people. Celine worked to gain his trust by providing daily nourishment.
“With the consistent food routine, he started coming over almost every day. One day, I set up a humane trap, and he simply walked right in,” Celine shared.
The cat was then taken to the veterinarian for evaluation. He received treatment for various health issues and tested positive for FIV. The discomfort caused by his mouth condition had plagued him for some time.
His matted fur was carefully shaved off, and a dental procedure removed all his damaged teeth. Finally, he could savor his meals without pain, and his appetite soared.
“Due to having very few teeth left, his tongue now sticks out constantly. Despite his appearance, he’s incredibly sweet on the inside and exudes charm,” Celine revealed.
Affectionately named Luckyou or Lucky, he was relieved to be free from the streets, never having to endure another day of hardship.
Lucky, estimated to be around seven years old, had likely spent most of his life as an outdoor cat. “At first, he was terrified of us, but things began to change once he realized he was safe.”
Gradually, his defensive hissing and spitting subsided, and he started associating his foster parents with positive experiences. One day, he summoned the courage to embrace their love and emerged from his shell.
“Once he learned to trust, he became an inquisitive cat, curious about everything around him. He started seeking attention and cuddles, purring loudly with his tongue sticking out,” Celine shared.
Lucky has a natural curiosity and enjoys being close to his human companions, observing their activities. His endearing title as the cutest “supervisor” stems from his habit of closely watching them while they eat. He also excels at engaging in conversations and being an attentive listener.
“You have to be mindful of your plate and not leave food unattended because he might sneak a bite,” Celine warned.
The once-frightened street cat has transformed into a confident attention-seeker and a full-time “supervisor.” “He’s quite intelligent and has even mastered high-fives with his people,” Celine mentioned, adding that he can demand treats by pushing a button.
Lucky relishes his afternoon siestas, lounging on a spacious couch without a care in the world. He playfully covers his eyes with his fluffy paw while sticking out his tongue, enhancing his already considerable cuteness.
“He responds to us with little crunchy meows during our conversations. Now that he feels secure, he wants to be friends with everyone he meets.”
Lucky has made friends with several cats in foster care, with Connor, an orange cat, being his closest companion.
“Luckyou had a difficult life before we found him.” Now, after more than a year, he hopes to find a loving family willing to open their home and hearts to a big-hearted teddy bear and an exceptional “supervisor” like him.
