A cat appeared outside a residence in Highland Park, CA, where another outdoor kitty was being cared for by the family. Despite having some old wounds, this feline showed immediate affection.
Eventually, the cat found refuge under their deck. Shortly before Christmas, he approached the door, and Carla Robinson, who was pet-sitting for the family, noticed new injuries on him.
As his condition worsened in the following days, Carla and another rescuer named Claudia took decisive action.

“Another rescuer and I decided it was time to get him off the streets,” Carla told us.
When they approached the cat, he was waiting right outside, seemingly eager to receive help and bid farewell to his outdoor life. “I simply picked him up and placed him gently into a carrier.”
The cat was lovingly named Horchata, and he needed a foster home. Boomer’s Buddies Rescue, based in Los Angeles, stepped in to assist, and their volunteer Catherine warmly welcomed him into her care.
After exploring his new surroundings, Horchata quickly settled in and craved attention.
“Within an hour, he was snuggling on his foster mom’s chest, and he has become sweeter every day.”
Based on his scars and rough appearance, Horchata had likely endured the challenges of outdoor life for a considerable time. Despite his large frame, he possessed a strong desire to be cherished.
“He is a big, gentle giant—a cross-eyed Siamese boy—who has been through a lot living on the streets and fighting for resources,” Boomers Buddies Rescue described.
Horchata tested positive for FIV and received treatment for wounds, fleas, and worms. Throughout it all, his spirits remained high, grateful for the safety and comfort of his new home. His healing journey began in a nurturing environment, filled with warmth.
Nothing brings him more joy than being with people. Horchata is a massive bundle of love, overflowing with affection. He turns into mush whenever he is petted.
He stays close to his foster mom, ready to leap onto her lap for a cuddle whenever the opportunity arises.
“Horchata is an extremely friendly cat who feels very comfortable with people. He loves to be petted, and his foster mom says he adores being carried around like a baby,” Carla shared.
This “teddy bear” of a cat craves the affection he was deprived of in the past. He happily kneads his paws when settling on a blanket, offering himself willingly to warm any unoccupied lap.
Horchata wears a content, relaxed expression on his face, often on the brink of dozing off. He eagerly awaits being picked up and cradled, nuzzling and melting into the arms of his caregivers, cherishing each moment.
This sweet boy enjoys following his foster mom around and remains ever-ready for snuggles.
No longer scavenging for food or fending for himself, Horchata revels in his new life, filled with purrs and an abundance of love from everyone around him.
